- Controlling the Bike:
-
- Game Speed:
- If you find that Dirt Bike is running too slowly on your computer, you can
- try the following:
- - Restart your computer with the shift key held down to turn off extensions.
- - Select "No Opponents" from the Opponents menu.
- - Select "Tiny Screen" from the "Screen Size" menu under the Options menu.
- - As a last resort, change your monitor to fewer colors (or B & W).
-
- Shifting:
- - upshift [x] or mouse button
- - downshift [z]
- Shifting keys can be changed. See Preferences...
-
- The current gear is shown at the lower left corner of the screen.
- You can edit the keys through the Preferences menu selection.
-
- Throttle:
- Throttle is controlled by the LOCATION of your mouse on the screen.
- - Many players become confused, thinking that it is the moving of the mouse which
- determines throttle.
- - If the cursor is at the top of the screen, throttle is on full.
- - If the cursor is at the bottom of the screen, brakes are on full.
- - Zero acceleration is about the middle of the screen.
-
- You can influence the rotation of the bike in the air with throttle.
- - tilt the bike forward by decreasing the throttle.
- - tilt the bike backward by increasing the throttle.
-
- NOTE: This effect is a gyration effect, by which changes in momentum of the rear
- wheel can be used to rotate the bike. Different bikes will have different
- levels of responsiveness to this effect.
-
- If you crash, click [x] to shift back into neutral and then shift normally.
-
- Opponnents:
-
- The blue wheeled bikes are the recorded races of the high score times, or the previous
- race, depending on the options you select in the menu. Each time a new high score is
- set, that race will be recorded so others can race against it.
-
- In the Opponent menu, you can select which bikes you want to appear in the race.
-
- Selecting Tracks and Bikes:
-
- Available tracks and bikes will appear in the Track Menu and the Bike Menu depending
- on which file you have opened. The basic tracks and bikes always appear in these
- menus.
